Bike not starting: safe observations before inspection
A motorcycle or scooter that will not start needs an assessment based on its model and symptoms. Starting controls, battery condition and other systems can produce similar symptoms.
Follow the normal starting procedure
In a safe stationary position, follow the owner’s manual for the key, stop switch, stand and brake or clutch controls. Do not bypass an interlock or attempt an improvised starting method.
Record what you notice
Tell the garage whether the display lights up, whether you hear clicking or cranking, and whether warning messages appear. Note the fuel or charge indication and when the bike last ran normally.
Leave diagnosis to an inspection
The battery, starter, key system or fuel and ignition systems may need checks depending on the bike. These are possibilities, not a confirmed fault. Do not work on electric-vehicle high-voltage components.
Stop if conditions are unsafe
Do not continue attempts if you notice a leak, smoke or a burning smell. Move yourself to safety and contact assistance. Confirm suitable recovery arrangements before moving the bike.
